Without rigorous cleaning, standardization, and verification with the declaring companies, rankings based on raw data can introduce inherent biases. This creates significant inaccuracies, undervaluing the 5G patent portfolios of companies that provide limited data while disproportionately favoring those with more extensive declarations.

Cellular Verified – Bringing Clarity to Patent Declaration Data
LexisNexis® IPlytics™ introduced the Cellular Verified data initiative, collaborating with over 30 ETSI-declaring companies to to set a new standard for precision in patent declaration data. The initiative involved rigorous verification, standardization, and enhancement of patent records by leveraging both public data and company-provided databases. As part of the process, detailed matching reports were shared with each participating company, enabling them to review and provide feedback by cross-referencing unmatched declared patents with their internal databases.
Completed within a year, the initiative achieved an impressive 99.9% accuracy across all published patent families. This milestone offers a reliable and unbiased view of the self-declared 4G and 5G patent landscapes, reinforcing the credibility of patent-counting statistics and providing a clear perspective on the rapidly evolving technology landscape.
